There are some Trazodone for insomnia side effects that you should know about before taking this medication though. These include:
- Drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, headaches and dry mouth are very common Trazodone for insomnia side effects.
- Fatigue, lethargy, psychomotor retardation, lightheadedness, dizziness, difficulty in concentration and confusion can be behavioral side effects of this medication.
- The neurological Trazodone for insomnia side effects include tremors, headaches, muscle stiffness, slurred or slowed speech, ringing in the ears, tingling of extremities, weakness, complex partial seizures, and sometimes impaired speech, muscle twitching, numbness, and involuntary movements.
- It is also possible to suffer from a dry mouth, blurred vision, nasal congestion, constipation, sweating, urinary retention, increased urinary frequency and incontinence whenever you are taking this medication.
- Cardiovascular side effects include hypertension, palpitations, shortness of breath, apnea and cardiac arrest.

Trazodone can either decrease or increase your libido. It can also cause weight gain or loss, and it sometimes causes menstrual irregularities, retrograde ejaculation and inhibition of ejaculation as well.
Sometimes men can suffer from the occurrence of priapism. This is the persistent, usually painful erection of the penis that is not related to sexual arousal. In approximately 33% of these cases, surgical intervention was required and this sometimes causes permanent impairment of erectile function or even impotence. So, if you are a male that is taking Trazodone and you have a prolonged or inappropriate erection, you should immediately discontinue this medication and consult your physician.
As with any other medication, there are some people who are going to be allergic to Trazodone. Sometimes this medication can even be toxic to these people. You will be able to tell if you are one of these people because you will have a skin rash, itching and run a fever that cannot otherwise be linked to anything.
